Accessibility Statement

Bundesdruckerei GmbH endeavours to make its website accessible without barriers in accordance with the Disability Equality Act (BGG) and the Accessible Information Technology Ordinance (BITV 2.0), as amended to implement Directive (EU) 2016/2102 of the European Parliament and of the Council.

This Accessibility Statement applies to the website www.bundesdruckerei-gmbh.de of Bundesdruckerei GmbH.

State of Compliance with the Requirements

At present, the website of Bundesdruckerei GmbH is not fully compliant with the technical requirements pursuant to BITV 2.0.

The Bundesdruckerei website and the underlying technical system were redesigned and rebuilt in 2021; the website went live on 8 February 2022. When developing the technical concept and web design for the new website, we sought to incorporate the requirements of BITV 2.0 in accordance with the BGG. Despite our efforts, not all barriers have yet been removed.

Non-Accessible Contents

The contents listed below are not fully accessible:

  • Text alternatives are available, but they are not consistent and, in some cases, are insufficient.
  • Some graphical objects have contrast ratios that are too low.
  • In some places, structures such as headings, paragraphs or lists are missing. The carousels also require minor revision. In addition, article elements are used incorrectly in some cases.
  • The keyboard focus is sometimes obscured. This affects the sticky header.
  • Keyboard operation for the tabbed navigation in the contact section has not been implemented correctly.
  • The keyboard focus is not visible in the carousels.
  • For some images, the alternative texts are not descriptive enough.
  • Alternative texts and audio descriptions are not yet consistently available for the videos embedded on the website.
  • The drop-down lists in the search function cause an impermissible change of context.
  • Some visible labels are being overwritten by aria-label in an unacceptable way.
  • Drop-down lists cannot be operated using a screen reader.

In addition, PDF files that are not tagged are available for download. For PDF files to be considered accessible, they must be PDF/UA-compliant.

We are continuously working to improve accessibility and access to our website. Due to the volume of content, we have not yet been able to make all content digitally accessible and provide it in an accessible format. When creating new content, our aim is to provide it in an accessible form wherever possible. We also endeavour to make older content accessible step by step.

In the following areas, an accessible design has in some cases not yet been achieved due to a disproportionate burden within the meaning of Article 5 of Directive (EU) 2016/2102 and Section 12a (6) BGG:

  • Infographics
Some infographics on our website contain text within the graphic itself, for which no explanatory alternative text is currently available.
  • PDF Documents
Not all PDF documents provided for download are accessible.

Revising all PDF documents at the time the new website was published would have constituted a disproportionate burden due to the large number of documents. It would have exceeded the resources available. When creating new PDF documents, our aim is to make them available in accordance with the PDF/UA standard (DIN ISO 14289). We also endeavour to make older PDF documents accessible step by step. Some existing support-related or contract-relevant PDF documents cannot be made accessible retrospectively.

The content on our website covers highly specialised topics relating to the digitalisation of public administration and the protection of digital identities, data and infrastructures. This content is primarily relevant to public-sector clients, clients from regulated industries and specialist audiences with a professional focus in this field.

If you require specific content from the areas mentioned above that is not yet available in an accessible format, please contact us by email at info@bdr.de. Please specify the format in which you require the content and the email address to which we may send it.

Preparation of the Accessibility Statement

This statement was prepared on 23 February 2023 and updated on 27 June 2025. The assessment is based on a test commissioned in June 2025 and carried out by an external service provider.
